Canberra's International Engagement Strategy identifies India as one on the ACT's top markets for education and research, tourism, ICT and e-Government as well as health and sports sciences.

In September last year, I led a trade mission to India - specifically to New Delhi and Mumbai, accompanied by my ACT Legislative Assembly colleague, Mr Deepak-Raj Gupta, The ACT Government will also be participating in the Australia India Business Exchange this month.

The potential for two-way trade between our two countries is enormous and that is why these awards are so important. Honouring those who are already building the relationship through their community work and through their business successes is a great way to encourage others to also see the opportunities that exist in India.

The initiative to hold the Awards Gala in India and Australia in alternating years is welcomed. It will help build an understanding and appreciation of each other's culture, customs and people.

I support the IABCA for their efforts in holding these awards and congratulate all the entrants for their great work in building the Australia India relationship.
