Will Hodgman MP, Premier of Tasmania
I am delighted to offer my congratulations to all nominees of the 6th Annual India Australia Business and Community Awards. These awards continue to be an important recognition of the strong connections between India and Australia and indeed, between India and Tasmania.
Historically, we have exported many products to India including aluminium, zinc and paper products. More recently, our exports have expanded to services such as international education. Since 2016 we have experienced an average annual increase in Indian student enrolments at education institutions across the State of almost 80 per cent.
We continue to identify opportunities to further develop our relationship. Our newly-released Tasmanian Trade Strategy 2019 - 2025 identifies India as an important market for engagement across sectors including international education, resources and energy, and tourism.
I note that the Australian Government endorsed the India Economic Strategy to 2035 report released in 20 18. In addition to our own Strategy, Tasmania is well-positioned to leverage opportunities arising from this Strategy and we look forward to deepening our cultural and economic ties with India in the years to come.
Once again, I congratulate the nominees and trust IABCA Gala is a wonderful evening celebrating the important relationship between our two countries.
